Protected Geographical Indication

(PGI) VALUL LUI TRAIAN (TRAJAN’S WALL) is located between the two ancient Trajan’s Walls that used to protect the Roman Empire from barbarians. This area includes forest steppe plains and plateaus, with aerated soils. It covers 107 thousand acres of vineyards. Warm climate is influenced by the Black Sea and nearby forests. Wineries of this region specialize in production of red wines (65 %), especially desert wines (Ciumai, Trifesti, etc.).

Sea level: 150 to 540 ft

 

Partner wineries Chateau Vartely, Cricova and Vinaria din Vale have extended their vineyards into this region.
