ABOUT MOLDOVA

Although a small country, Moldova has large ethnic diversity. The ethnic groups living today in Moldova are: Moldovans 65%, Ukrainians 15%, Russians 13%, and others (Orthodox Turks, Bulgarians, Jews, Armenians, Germans, Greeks, Belarusians). The majority of people live in the rural area. Moldovans keep their identity and culture, especially in the villages where life is just as it was centuries ago: simple and spiritual.

The people in Moldova are friendly, open, and speak multiple languages, including Romanian and Russian. The most important quality of Moldovans is hospitality. A host will always serve his guest with great Moldovan wine and the best food. Usually, the guests are invited into the Casa Mare (Big Room) – a traditional room in each house where people feast together, sing and dance. After such a visit to Casa Mare, every new guest becomes a true friend of the family.
