VINARIA DIN VALE

Own vine plantations: 1550 acres.

PGI Codru and PGI Valul lui Traian

Annual wine production: 200,000 cases + bulk wine

The story of the largest family run winery in Moldova, Vinaria din Vale (Valley Winery) begins in 2000 after the acquisition and reconstruction of an old winery, built in the 19th century.

In 2002, Vladimir Davidescu, the head of family, planted the first vines in the legendary Valley of Storks, where the waters of Prut and Danube Rivers meet. It is considered to be one of the most favorable regions for growing grapes in the country. In the beginning, Vinaria din Vale focused on cultivation of classic grape varieties producing bulk wine for export markets. Later Vinaria din Vale invested in new technologies and re-focused efforts on increasing the quality of wines with the gradual conversion from bulk production to bottling of its own premium wines.  In 2008, the family decided to plant additional vineyards dedicated to indigenous varieties Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Neagra, Rara Neagra, and several regional grapes Aligote, Saperavi, and Traminer. Today, Vinaria din Vale owns 1550 acres of vines located in the Southern and Central regions.

In 2009, the winery began organic conversion of its vineyards. By 2011, it has completed the organic certification for one third of plantations and thus became one of the leaders in certified organic winemaking in Moldova. In 2014, just a couple of years after beginning own bottling, Vinaria din Vale received the Silver medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards for its Feteasca Alba 2013.
