EQUINOX WINERY

Own vine plantations: 45 acres.

PGI Stefan Voda

Annual wine production: 1,600 cases

After falling in love with winemaking, prominent boutique producer Constantin Stratan traded his technical engineering job for a career in growing grapes and crafting wines.

A second college degree in vinticulture was followed by internships at wineries in Languedoc-Roussillon in France, Sonoma in California, and Marlborough in New Zealand.

Constantin Stratan started his Equinox winery in 2002 with planting a 4 acres hilltop vineyard near Olanesti village overlooking the Nistru River. This zone is known as PGI Stefan Voda and is considered to be one of the best spots for making red wines in Moldova.

Holding only 45 acres, Constantin Stratan is proud to be the country’s smallest producer in terms of volume. His Equinox Estate focuses on crafting small quantities of high quality wines that express the personality of Moldovan soil, unique location and climate. Ensuring a harmonious coexistence with the surrounding nature, Constantin grows eight varieties of grapes including indigenous Rara Neagra, Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Neagra and regional Saperavi. He produces up to 1600 cases of wine per year.

Equinox wines are served primarily in the best restaurants of Moldova. Limited quantities have been exported to neighboring countries, as well as held in private collections.
